Uranus Imprint
The People’s House and the surrounding complex represent everything that the Uranus neighborhood was not: a colossal building with pseudo-traditional ornamentation, constructed in the form of an impersonal monument. In addition to the site’s topography, which has been considerably altered, the Uranus neighborhood has been reduced to two types of materials: marble and travertine stone. During the demolition of the Uranus neighborhood in the 1980s, architect Peter Derer and his students saved certain fragments from the demolished houses. What remains is not merely architectural debris, but the memory of human-scaled architecture, diverse in materiality and style.
